A WORD ABOUT SAFETY!
(All
products found in this website are restricted material designed for
industrial applications only! NOT FOR RESALE.
Please
read the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for more details on each,
before use!
All SILICAST
products are intended for professional use only and only by persons
familiar with correct manufacturing techniques. We are not responsible
for the misuse of our products, or if handled in an unsafe manner, or
due to improperly maintained equipment, or for uses other than
intended as casting materials.
A Hazardous
communications program should be in place to address all safety and
health issues!
SILICONE
RUBBER WARNING!
When working with Silicone Rubber, where all safety equipment to
prevent skin irritation as well as burns from uncured hot molds!
Do not breathe fumes
from curing silicones. Breathing in these fumes is dangerous, and may
cause short term and long term progressive, irreversible injury to the
body.!
Some formulas of
silicone can contain Methylpolysiloxanes
which can generate Formaldehyde at approximately 300 degrees
Fahrenheit (150'F) and above, in atmospheres which contain oxygen.
Formaldehyde is a skin and respiratory sensitizer, eye and throat
irritant, acute toxicant, and potential cancer hazard. Take all
precautions as described in each MSDS.
ALWAYS wear a
mask that is rated for use with the product. (Call us for
high-efficiency half-masks and full-face respirators and HEPA
filters.)
Keep your casting area
clean and well ventilated. Obtain the MSDS for each product you wish
to use BEFORE purchasing. Follow OSHA safety and health standards for
handling Silicone,
METAL
ALLOY WARNING! When working with metal
alloys, do not breathe dust or fume. Breathing in metal fume is
dangerous, and may cause short term and long term progressive,
irreversible injury to the body and under extreme cases, even death!
Studies
show that metal fume or particles can be so small that regular dust
masks will not provide adequate protection from inhalation. ALWAYS
wear a mask that is rated for use with the product. (Call us for
high-efficiency half-masks and full-face respirators and HEPA
filters.) Wear this protective mask when mixing, grinding and pouring
any alloy.
Keep your casting area
clean and well ventilated. Obtain the MSDS for each product you wish
to use BEFORE purchasing. Follow OSHA safety and health standards for
handling Lead, Tin, Cadmium, Zinc, Antimony, Bismuth, Copper, Silver
and Aluminum.
RELEASE
AGENTS, TALC, SPRAYS! When working
with silicone molds, it is traditional to use mold release agents when
vulcanizing and talcum powder (baby powder) when spin casting with
molten metals. These release or parting agents can cause serious
health effects without proper ventilation and strict housekeeping
rules. Follow all precautions on the can or package.
TALC is Chemically
similar to asbestos, a known cancer causing substance. It
si found in baby and body powders;
and as a lubricant in condoms, resulting in fallopian tube fibrosis
and infertility. The American Journal of Epidemiology study found
talcum powder to cause increased risk of ovarian cancer and urinary
tract disorders.
Studies for respiratory toxicity are inconclusive but better to avoid
the possible dangers by using adequate ventilation and safety
equipment procedures.
REMEMBER TO WORK
SMART! SAFETY ALWAYS COMES FIRST.
